Durrës
Durrës is Albania’s largest port, with direct ferry services connecting it to Bari. Because of its proximity to Tirana, it has become the country’s largest holiday resort, with kilometres of newly built hotels lining its sandy coastline.

It is also the country’s oldest city, having been founded by Greek settlers in 627 BC. Its most impressive tourist attraction is a Roman amphitheatre, built in the 2nd century BC, which was only uncovered in the 1960’s. A part of the wall which once surrounded the city, and its bastion, are still standing. The city’s most important museum, the Museum of Archaeology, can be found on the coastal promenade.
