Bialowieza Forest
Bialowieza Primeval Forest is located between Belarus and Poland; about 70 km north of Brest, in southwestern part of the country on the Belarusian side. Bialowieza Primeval Forest is the only remaining part of the original forest, which once covered the Eastern European Plain. Bialowieza Biosphere Reserve was inscribed on UNESCO World heritage List in 1992.
On the Belarusian side the Biosphere Reserve occupies 1,771 km² altogether; in which the National Park and World Heritage Area cover 876 km². Bialowieza Forest, Belarus (Photo: GNU) |
