Herrenchiemsee palace
Herrenchiemsee palace is located on the Herreninsel island in the middle of the Chiemsee about 60 km south east from Munich. Herrenchiemsee Palace or New Palace (Neues Schloss) is one of the most famous buildings of King Ludwig II of Bavaria's palaces.
The palace was built between 1878 and 1885 and it was intended to be a replica of Versailles in Paris. Herrenchiemsee palace has manicured gardens, elaborate decorations and a hall of mirrors. The original plan called for seventy rooms, but it was never finished. There are twenty rooms in the finished part of the Neo-Baroque palace, which was built before the king died in 1886. The following year, all construction works stopped and the building was opened for the public. Later Crown Prince Rupprecht gave the palace to the State of Bavaria.
