Located on the western part of Hungary, about 30 km southeast of Sopron, Fertőd has Hungary’s largest and most beautiful baroque palace. The 126-room Esterházy Palace, also called the "Hungarian Versailles", was built in the 18th century. Hungary's richest aristocratic family, the Esterházys were great patrons of music. Joseph Haydn spent more than thirty years as a court composer in the palace and composed many of his famous works during this period. Fertod - Esterházy Palace The palace houses a museum, now.
