The settlement dates back to the Middle Ages, and its history is closely intertwined with that of the 13th century castle overlooking it. Of the royal castles built during the Árpád Period, this one is sited in one of the most picturesque locations. The castle, which sits on a cone of volcanic andesite, is located in a Nature Conservation Area.
