Ják
The small village of Ják is located in the western part of Hungary, in the Western-Transdanubia region, about 10 km south from the city of Szombathely. Ják's main attraction is its medieval Benedictne Abbey. The Benedictne Abbey of Ják is one of the most stupendous monuments of Hungarian architecture and plastic art of the late Romanesque period. The monastery was founded around 1214. The most splendidly ornamented part of the three-nave church with three apses is the western façade, emphasised by a pair of towers. The interior of the church has also preserved its original Romanesque style. Ják is a site where an ensemble of a curia, a parish church and a thirteenth-century monastery foundation act are displayed for the visitors. Benedictne Abbey of Ják Benedictne Abbey of Ják |
