Popova Shapka is located in the northwestern part of Macedonia, in the Sar Mountain (Sar Planina) near the town of Tetovo, about 35 km from Skopje. Popova Shapka is one of the most popular winter ski resorts in Macedonia. Popova Shapka ski resort is situated above 1780 m the sea level and it is covered with snow from November until March or April.

Popova Shapka provides excellent ski environment and hotel accommodations for tourists. The ski resort is also known for its international ski events; it hosted European Ski Championship and Balkan Ski Championship before. Apart from ski facilities, there are many small glacial lakes in the surroundings. Popova Shapka can be reached by car and rope-railway from Tetovo.
