Biogradska Gora National Park





Biogradska Gora National Park is situated in the central-northern part of Montenegro, between Tara and Lim Rivers. Biogradska Gora National Park is a part of Bjelasica Mountains. The National Park consists of Biogradsko Lake and Biogradska Gora; it was established in 1978. The Seat of the Park is in Kolašin.

The biggest and the most significant biological value of the National Park is the wild forest of Biogradska Gora, covering the area of 1600 ha. Biogradska Gora is one of the last three wild forest in Europe.

The park has 26 plant communities with around 2.000 species and subspecies. Out of over 200 bird species, particularly interesting is the imperial eagle. Deer, fawn, leap, wolf, wild boar, fox, rabbit and over 350 different inspects species have found their habitat in the Park.

Biogradsko Lake is the biggest and best known of the numerous glacial lakes in the area of the National Park. Biogradsko Lake is situated at the height of 1094 m, surrounded by wild forest, 1100 m long, 400 m wide and 12 m deep. The shore of the lake is 3,5 km long. Around the lake there is a tourist path.
