Danilovgrad is a town in central Montenegro that is located in the Valley of Zeta River and lies between Montenegro largest cities. The town is in the centre of Danilovgrad Municipality and is a favorite with tourist. Danilovgrad was founded way back in 1870 when King Nikola I laid the foundations for the city. It was first established with the purpose of making it the capital of Montenegro but it slowly diminished throughout the years and got its name from Prince Danilo.
There are different methods of transportation to get to Danilovgrad which includes air transportation, road transportation and rail transportation. Air transportation is facilitated by Podgorica Airport terminal which is located 11 km south of Podgorica and is 30km away from Danilovgrad. The airport has regular trips from major towns and cities such as Rome, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, Bari, Belgrade and Budapest. Upon arriving at the airport, a passenger may choose to either travel to Danilovgrad by a bus or a taxi. Since the town is strategically placed between the two largest cities in Montenegro, road transportation and rail transportation is easily accessible.
The main tourist attraction site in Danilovgrad is the famous orthodox Ostrog Monastery. The Monastery is set aside to Saint Basil of Ostrog and was founded by a man named Vasilije in the 17th century. The Monastery is placed almost vertically high in the rock of Ostroška Greda and represents the meeting point of all religious confessions. The Monastery has another church within it placed within the upper level of the Monastery cave. It attracts many believers from all over the world mostly because of the pilgrim stories which says that if that many people have been healed and relieved their difficulties in life after praying beside the Monastery. The Monastery and the church buildings are outstanding mostly due to the church buildings and the scenery around it.
Danilovgrad has surrounding mountains that are over a 1000 meters high and it is because of this that the town is able to have visitors during winter. The town also has marvelous marble rocks that attract a large number of master builders from different destinations. Another famous attraction and sight is Glava Zete which is located in the town’s surrounding area.
The town fully supports accommodation with numerous hotels and restaurants all over its vicinity and is also a secure place in terms of security. The town of Danilovgrad stands out among other towns as it is not an ordinary town but an attractive tourist destination.
