Bohinj International Wild Flower Festival
The mountains above Lake Bohinj, in the heart of Slovenia’s only national park, Triglav National Park, has long been a treasure trove of Alpine flowers. This year the fourth annual Wild Flower Festival will be held in Bohinj from 22 May to 5 June.
The International Wild Flower Festival in Bohinj lasts for two weeks and celebrates the culture, natural environment and landscape of Bohinj, which is economically, socially and environmentally an extremely sensitive area of Slovenia. Alpine wildflowers have an important place in Bohinj culture to this day. While the agricultural techniques are changing, and the young people are no longer as connected to cultivation and to the soil, a strong wish to promote and raise awareness of the area’s unique natural and cultural heritage still lives in the inhabitants of Bohinj.
The festival lasts fourteen days and offers a “bouquet” of events, which are all connected by a common theme – they draw attention to the limitless wealth of Alpine wildflowers and the diversity of the living environment in Bohinj (pastures, mountains, the lake, rivers etc.).
The festival organisers hope that during the festival both visitors and locals will get to know the unique natural features and advantages that Bohinj offers as a tourism destination and that nature conservation and tourism can coexist. They hope that in the future they will create sustainable tourism products and services connected with the natural and cultural heritage of Bohinj and the Triglav National Park.
The numerous events, which will take place in several towns and venues, are related to the three themes of the festival: - Wildflowers in the arts - Wildflowers at home and - Wildflowers in science
