Salvador Dalí exhibition in Kromeriz chateau, Czech Republic
The city Kroměříž is celebrated for its complex of gardens and chateau that is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The reasons to visit this city are of course many, but one in particular is an exhibit of works by world-renowned surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.
The exhibit is titled “Salvador Dalí: Divine Comedy” and can be seen at the Museum of Kroměříž District from 21 May to 15 August 2010. It will feature the complete collection of 103 original lithographs illustrating Dante’s Divine Comedy as well as ceramic works (painted plates and a horse cycle on tiles), paintings on silk, graphic artworks and bronze sculptures. The collection is supplemented with large-scale photographs by Václav Chochola that he took in 1969 at Salvador Dalí’s hotel room in Paris. A stand-out among the photographs is a portrait of Dalí with an egg – an image that has become famous around the world and is regarded as Chochola’s absolute best portrait.
