Pustinja Monastery
Pustinja Monastery is located in the western part of Serbia, near the river Jablanica, about 20 km from the town of Valjevo. According to the legend, the monastery was founded in 13th century during the reign of Serb King Dragutin. However, the first written documents about Pustinja Monastery date from 1572. The unique architecture and the beautifully built iconostasis indicate that patron took orthodox Yermenians to have the monastery built. The well-preserved frescoes were done in 1622. One of the most outstanding is the fresco of St John the Baptist. Today, the monastery complex works as a nunnery. Pustinja Monastery |
