Predjama Castle
Located in southwestern part of Slovenia, 10 kilometers from Postojna in the southwestern part of Slovenia, the picturesque Renaissance Predjama castle stands on a 123 meters high cliff. The most famous inhabitant of the castle was Erazem of Predjama, rebellious knight in the 15th century. Predjama Castle was probably built in the 12th century, but the first records of the castle date back to 1202. Among the most interesting sights are the living quarters, the chapel and the dungeon. The fascinating objects on view include weapons, oil paintings, and a pieta from 1420. From the castle building a passage leads to a refuge in a hollow, where an observation post in the rocky cliff offers a wonderful view over the surrounding countryside. An annual medieval tournament is held in August. Predjama castle |
