Esfigmenou Monastery, Mount Athos, Greece

Esfigmenou monastery is situated in the northern part of Greece, on the Athos peninsula.  Esfigmenou monastery is a part of the Self-governed monastic state of Mount Athos in Greece. The current building dates back to the 10th century, but the site had been used as a monastery since the 5th century.Esphigmenou monastery ranks eighteenth in the hierarchy of the Athonite monasteries. Mount Athos was inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List. Today the monastery has about 115 monk and it is the most populous monastery in Athos.
