Kos island is located in the south Sporades group of the Dodecanese islands in Greece, next to the Gulf of Gökova, about 4 kilometres from the coast of Bodrum, Turkey. Kos town is the administrative center and largest town of the island. The ruins of Asklepieion are popular tourist attractions. In ancient Greece and Rome, an asclepeion was a healing temple, sacred to the god Asclepius.The cult of Asclepius started around 300 BC.
