Lanzarote, The Hot Holiday Destination
Surreal volcanic scenery. Over ninety great beaches. A great year round climate and some high quality accommodation. Lanzarote boasts all of the right ingredients for anyone seeking a relaxing sunshine break. And thanks to the islands location just off the coast of West Africa tourists can visit the Island of Fire all year round.
Lanzarote is Spanish owned - but located a long way south of the Iberian Peninsula - just 80 miles from Morocco on the African mainland. Sharing the same line of latitude as parts of Florida and Mexico.
As a result temperatures rarely fall much below 20 C. Whilst flights from Northern Europe take just four hours. Making Lanzarote the closest winter sun destination to markets such as the UK, Germany and Eire. Which is where the majority of the islands 1.5 million annual visitors embark from.
Despite Lanzarote´s popularity as a holiday destination the island is still relatively untouched. Especially by comparison with the larger Canary Islands such as Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Visitors will find no high rise hotels and a complete absence of advertising messages cluttering the scenery. As commercial billboards and hoardings are banned. The three main holiday resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise are also very well contained. Ensuring that the island retains much of its rural identity.

Beach at Papagayo
Playa Blanca in the south is the newest resort destination and home to the bulk of the best hotels and villas in Lanzarote. The town is located just across the Bocaina Straits from the island of Fuerteventura too. Making it possible to visit two Canary Islands rather than just one. Good value apartment accommodation is also available in the main resort - Puerto del Carmen. Which is located just ten minutes from the sole international airport at Arrecife.

Volcanic Lanzarote
The island measures just 58km by 38km - so it’s very easy to tour. Which is just as well as Lanzarote boasts a large amount of things to do and see.
The number one attraction is the Timanfaya Volcano Park. Which dominates the south of the island and is where a series of eruptions took place during the 1730´s. Creating a weird and wonderful terrain that looks like the surface of the moon.
Elsewhere visitors can explore picturesque villages such as Yaiza and Haria. As well as the creations of an artist called César Manrique. Who worked with the volcanic scenery to construct sights such as the Mirador del Rio, a lofty lookout point from where visitors can drink in the views to the small island of La Graciosa below.
