Ski Resorts in Colorado Powderhorn ski district

Powderhorn ski area is located in Colorado. The resort has all of the amenities for outdoor activities any time of the year, but the best time of the year is definitely the ski season. There are over 1600 skiable acres, supported by several chair lifts – one quad, two doubles and one surface. They receive an average snowfall of 250 inches. The summit elevation is 9,850 feet with a vertical drop of 1,650 feet.
If you are looking for an affordable getaway, this is definitely a great choice. The Powderhorn ski resort has “Plus Cards” which cost $50 and will save you $7 on every lift ticket you buy in a season. The fifth lift ticket is always free and each year, it varies, but there is a free week included for people who purchase Plus Cards. This is a really great feature, given the high cost of lift tickets.
The resort has special programs of instruction for all ages. They have a “learn to ride” program for anyone of any age who wants to learn to ski or to snowboard. They also offer special programs for skiers who are looking to improve their skills.
Powderhorn ski area also offers special adaptive lessons for those who have a disability. They are also hosting the Special Winter Olympics in March, 2010. If you want to ski, nothing should stop you, especially a disability. Powderhorn believes that the outdoors is the “great equalizer” and provides everyone with an opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence and reach a certain level of independence.
If you are looking for accommodations, there are several excellent choices. The Inn at Wildwood is close to the slope at Powderhorn. It has all the amenities you need to enjoy a great ski vacation. There is the Hilltop House, which can easily be rented by just one family. It sleeps 8, has 3 bathrooms, 2 conference rooms, full kitchen, dining room, hot tub, satellite TV and a large deck.
Powderhorn ski area also has two really excellent Terrain Parks where you can practice and show off your mad skills. Tyro Park has hits, rails and boxes that you can work through as your skills improve.
The Horn Park has benches and boxes, jumps, and bonks, a pyramid, wall ride, C rails, and a flat down flat. You can easily blast the day away here, practicing and perfecting your tricks.
Each year the Powderhorn has a series of competitions where you can show off your skills and win great prizes too.
There are many things to do nearby, with a variety of restaurants and shopping. If you enjoy skiing at Powderhorn, you can even invest in one of the many real estate developments that are being added annually. Powderhorn is a really great ski destination, although it is not as popular as some of the other ski resorts in the US. The great part of this is that it is so much more affordable for a family to take a vacation and ski there.
