For many folks who visit Ontario, one of the first ventures beyond Toronto is a trip to the District Municipality of Muskoka. A 2500 square-mile region usually referred to as simply “Muskoka,” it has small communities, like the township of Muskoka Lakes, whose population of some 7000 swells to 34,000 during the summer, as the region gets over two million tourists a year. Niagara’s Winter Festival of Lights has run every year since 1950 and the two waterfalls at Niagara have been lit in rainbow colours during the winter season most years since 1925, after the creation of the ‘Niagara Falls Illumination Board’. Woodstock Ontario is a picturesque city situated along the Thames river in Soutwestern Ontario. While certainly not the most famous Woodstock in North America, the city still has it’s own charm. If you’re planning on going on a Niagara Falls tour on either side of the river then you really should check out the view from the deck of one of the Maid of the Mist 80 foot, 600 passenger, 350 horsepower tour boats that depart every fifteen minutes and take passengers clad in raincoats to the very foot of the massive falls.
