Once you are equipped with all the skills you need to stay upright then windsurfing on the open ocean is not uncommon. The Mediterranean Ocean is right next to the Mar Menor and can challenge you a lot more. The winds off the coast are a little fiercer and depending on the time of day can be too dangerous for a newbie. Experienced windsurfers may find the sea a lot more challenging and prefer to spend their time there over the Mar Menor. For a windsurfer, Spain does not only offer schools to allow you to further you skills but also have a range of shops that will repair your gear or supply you with the top of the range latest equipment. The latest windsurfing gear does not come cheap so like any shops you might encounter you should shop around looking for the best deals you can find. If you do not wish to buy any equipment then there are some shops, included Windsurfing in Spain schools that will rent out everything you need on a hourly to daily rate. If you hire out your own equipment then you can just go straight to the Mar Menor and give windsurfing a go!
