Andes Mountains in South America are home to a spectacularly beautiful scenery and varied sights related to nature and wildlife. These are among the most beautiful in the world, with a great heritage with respect to culture and history. The highest mountains that you will see in the Andes ranges are in the Cordillera Blanca, one of the most challenging and extremely beautiful destinations. If you are a climber, this is one destination that should be included in your itinerary.

You will see more than twenty three peaks in total, all of them more than five thousand meters in height from the small town of Huarez in Peru. The Huascaran is the most notable among these, with a height of 6, 768 meters. The Cordillera Blanca also boasts of the biggest concentration of glaciers in the tropical region. The jewel of the Andes, or the deep blue lakes in the region make for an exceedingly wonderful experience.

A majority of the Cordillera Blanca is now under protection and is under the Parque Nacional Huascaran. The region, including the entire cordillera, which stands at more than four thousand meters has been included and declared as a World Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO.

The mountains and landscapes of the Cordillera have a huge number of opportunities for hiking, mountaineering and trekking. The treks are pretty easy on the body as long as you are fit, and last for more than five days. The altitude takes a little acclimatizing to, and there are a number of rough patches between four thousand to five thousand meters
