Sheraton Stockholm Hotel

This eight-story hotel was purpose built by Sheraton in 1971, and has always aimed to cater for the international business traveler. The huge lobby has a long wooden reception desk tucked away to the right, while almost all the remaining space is given over to seating and dining. Guests are often drawn to the huge glass fireplace that warms the lobby bar.

Amenity highlights: The hotel’s business facilities are among the best in Scandinavia and include 13 flexible meeting rooms, a business center, and wireless Internet access. Guests can also unwind in the sauna or enjoy a massage. Two restaurants provide excellent dining options, while guests who are feeling lucking can play the tables in the casino.

Insider tip: Gamla Stam (Old Town) is just a ten-minute walk over the bridge opposite the hotel’s entrance. The perfect time to visit is in the late afternoon when guests can take in the Royal Palace and the Cathedral while its daylight. Visitors can then sample some of the excellent bars and restaurants, which come to life in the early evening.

DINING

Liberty Kitchen – Occupying a large area to the back left of the lobby, the hotel’s buffet restaurant features an open kitchen and serves buffet breakfast and lunch and an à la carte lunch and dinner. The à la carte menu is contemporary international and includes succulent Black Angus Steaks made from Irish beef. There is a section of seats by the front window, which offers greater formality, while to one side is the coffee bar section of the restaurant, which has an entrance from the street and serves a range of pastries.

Die Ecke – The hotel’s Bavarian restaurant has an outstanding reputation in Stockholm and is a particular favorite of Princess Christina. It is decorated in traditional Bavarian style, with wooden walls and ceiling, red and white check tablecloths and sturdy wooden chairs. Beers can be served in metal steins. Dishes include the Pork Sausages with Sauerkraut or Grilled Salmon with Sautéed Cucumbers.

Lobby Lounge – The lobby lounge serves drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Large leather armchairs are scattered around the four-sided glass and steel fireplace that forms the centerpiece of the room. A raised area offers further seating.

The hotel is easily reached via regular train and bus service. At the airport, take the Arlanda Buss or the Arlanda Express train to Central Station, which is located across the street from the hotel. The bus takes about 40 minutes; the train makes the trip in 20 minutes. Taxi and limousine services are also available.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

The Sheraton has more meeting and conference space than any other hotel in Scandinavia. The mezzanine level has 13 flexible rooms and a separate lobby area with sleek caramel and black leather armchairs. The 12-seat wood-paneled boardroom has large black leather swivel chairs. The largest of the rooms can accommodate 280 for a banquet. There is also a business center and complimentary wireless Internet access in the meeting rooms and the lobby bar.

Leisure guest can enjoy a range of services, including the health club, which has male and female saunas with relaxation rooms, cardiovascular machines and three TVs. Massages are also available. There is a gift shop by the entrance and to the back of the lobby bar is a casino, with roulette and black jack tables.

ROOMS

This hotel has 462 guestrooms, all of which have high-speed Internet access (surcharge), satellite TV, voicemail, and climate control. Rooms are decorated in yellow with different colored drapes and bedspreads on each floor: either red, yellow, green or blue. Executive rooms are slightly larger than Classic rooms and also have better views. The average room size is 26 square meters. The first floor has hypo-allergenic bedding and most floors are non-smoking.
