Santorini is also known by the name Thira which comes from the ancient Spartan Thiran who moved from Sparta and was the first resident of the island after the the eruption of the volcano which caused lots of destructions.

Santorini is located in the southern Aegean Sea and belongs to the Cyclades islands. It lies 63 nautical miles from Crete and has an area of 75 square kilometers.
