Veracruz is not a destination that is popularly visited by travelers to Mexico. It is an often neglected destination. However, the state of Veracruz has a huge number of excellent sights on offer that simply makes for a superbly rewarding destination. To top it all off, the state is also not commercialized and touristy like the more popular tourist places, and the tourist hordes have remained delightfully away from here.
The state of Veracruz is one of the thirty one states in Mexico. The state is situated at the east central region of the country. The state has numerous points of interest. The beaches here touch the heavenly waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The Jungles here are excellent for hikers and animal and bird lovers.
Veracruz also has mountainous regions filled with opportunities for activities. The seafood served at the coastal areas is simply mouth watering and fresh. There are a great number of reasons why the state is an extremely rewarding destination. The state has a heavy influence from Cuba and the Spanish spoken at Veracruz and Tabasco is considered Caribbean Spanish.
The hot humid weather at Veracruz was among the main reasons why the state was not seen as a great destination. However, that the climate is hot and humid is not true of the entire state, and there are a range of climates. The climate differs from the humid jungle areas of the north west to the Jalapa ( or Xalapa ) mountainous region that is cooler.
Velacruz is filled with a variety of choices for tourists. The state is filled with a number of attractions related to history and culture as well, in addition to nature. The El Tajin is one of the most notable sights in Velacruz. The building site has been declared by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. El Tajin is a collection of holy buildings where religious sporting events and other ceremonies were held. These events were held from a long way back, right from AD 100. It was the Spaniards that rediscovered El Tajin in 1785.
El Tajin is close to the beach resort of Tecolutla which is situated at the Atlantic coast. Tecolutla is home to a beach resort. The beach here is beautiful and the water temperatures remain warm through out the year, which makes it an excellent option for swimming. Sport fishing offered here is another highlight, as the waters are filled with a variety of species such as Jack, Tuna, Tarpon, Snook, Barracuda, Dorado (MahiMahi) and King Mackrel. The Dive sites at the virgin reefs here is another advantage. The cities of Poza Rica and Papantla are also close by.
